About
Day 180 was founded on the idea that time is limited for schools to educate kids during the school year. The average number of school days in the US is 180 instructional days. We really don’t have time for unused edtech or products that waste the time of students, teachers, and administrators.
It’s 2023 as I am writing this description, and to date, there are no educational software products that replace a school teacher. With that being the case, we should be working very diligently to manage the technology we do allow in our schools. Typically, the “use of technology” has meant that the technology is used to perform a task or speed the process of sharing information. Technology in education has exploded in the type and scope of products which makes licensing decisions difficult for K12 schools.
The Day 180 process addresses this challenge and acknowledges that every district is different. The unique needs of each district should be taken into account and technology should be prioritized to address these needs. If technology is improving student instruction and is actively used in the process, then proceed and grow. If the technology is not being used, then consider discontinuing its use. This process speeds up this decision.
The idea for Day 180 struck the founder as he drove between districts to sell one district and get the renewal from another. “If this district knew that no one logged in this year, they wouldn’t renew.” That was just one guy selling one product, imagine the thousands of products and people around the country doing the exact same work.
We truly don’t have the time to waste. Let’s get started!!
